What is Your Purpose?

Why am I here? What is my purpose in life? Is my purpose simply to find a good job, start a family, and eventually retire in a destination community? Or is it to work all my life to end up relying on government subsidies, disability, and social security?

These are all questions every human has faced at one point in their lives. What is God's purpose for my existence? Isn't there a deeper meaning for my life?

Such questions often leave us feeling empty or inadequate, simply because we feel we don't know the answer.

We long for fulfillment, but find a void, and eventually resign ourselves to the fact that our existence is merely to work, pay bills, and die. But the desire to pursue God's purpose never goes away. And our soul longs to find the deep meaning of life.

Stop searching! Here is the simple answer to these complex questions - You are God's fingerprint on the world.

What do I mean by that?

You have been blessed with distinct gifts, special skills, extraordinary talent, and knowledge for such a time as this! It is no accident you were born in your generation, and whether you are young and new to this world or one step away from eternal retirement, God placed you in this generation to make a mark on mankind.

Blah, blah, blah... I know you've heard all this before and it sounds so cliche. Don't roll your eyes and sigh as if my "Pollyanna" statement pointed out the obvious.

Here's what I want you to realize. You belong to God and God doesn't make junk. Sure, your life may stink at the moment, or maybe you are not where you want to be, but as long as you have breath in your lungs and blood in your veins, today is what matters!

Just like each of us has fingerprints that uniquely identify us as individuals, God did not intend for you to be among the status quo - those who are walking around like zombies, merely existing but longing for something greater.

Here's the problem before we identify the solution - the reason so many don't find their purpose is because they don't live with intentional purpose!

People generally don't wake up in the morning wondering, "Hmmmm. Who could I bless today?" or "How can I impact someone for the better."

Instead, we crawl out of bed, conduct our morning routines just to get motivated enough to get where we need to go (i.e. work, school, or appointment). We do what we need to do, and go home, only to start another routine of housework, homework, clothes, kids, and dinner, before falling into bed, exhausted, without a real sense of accomplishment or purpose.

When you live your life with intention, you will find your purpose very quickly! Here are a few tips to help you find your purpose:

Tip # 1 - Start your day off with a 15-minute daily devotional.

One of my favorites is John Maxwell's Leadership Devotional. Do this before or during breakfast. Feed your soul while you feed your stomach!

Tip # 2 - Pray for God to reveal His purpose in your life each and every day.

Intentionally pray for God to place people in your life, today, and lead you how to bless, honor, encourage, or exhort them. Then watch and witness what God does.

Tip # 3 - Use your talent, skills, expertise, and knowledge to help others (including your boss).

In our self-absorbed world of "what's-in-it-for-me," we need to intentionally turn our focuse away from self-service to others-service. In other words, your talent, skills, expertise, and knowledge are worthless if you are the only person they're serving!

Purposely find areas where you can utilize these gifts to help someone else whether it is your boss, your neighbor, your spouse, your kids, your co-workers, or your community. You'll soon discover purpose when you start to intentionally find areas to access your toolbox.

You notice every tip includes an action word. Simply doing is not enough. We all have busy lives with busy schedules, and that's not going to change. But, to make life more flavorable, we have to incorporate action and intention into our daily routines if we ever want to fulfill God's purpose and make an impact on the world.

Granted you may or may not become President of the United States, but frankly, your personal impact on people will far exceed what anyone in political or entertainment realms ever will.

But, this is just the first step in creating a Revolutionary Life! For more tips and information to help propel you on the track, be sure to subscribe to my blog and check out Creating a Revolutionary Life.
